SAU Hosts First Session of IIRS–ISRO Training Programme on Remote Sensing

Sikkim Alpine University (SAU) has been recognized as an official Nodal Centre of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), ISRO, Dehradun, for hosting Live & Interactive Online Training Programmes.

Under this initiative, the University is hosting the “Remote Sensing and Digital Image Analysis” (Course No. 190) from August 31 to September 25, 2026, with the programme coordinated through the Department of Geography, Sikkim Alpine University.

The first session of the programme was successfully conducted on August 31, 2026, by experts from IIRS–ISRO, Dehradun. The session introduced participants to the basic principles of remote sensing and fundamental concepts of radiometry, including radiance, irradiance, radiant intensity and related parameters. An interactive quiz was also conducted to reinforce participants’ understanding of the concepts.

The programme provides students and participants with an opportunity to learn directly from IIRS–ISRO scientists and experts through a structured live and interactive learning platform. The initiative reflects SAU’s commitment to promoting geospatial education, practical learning, technological awareness and industry/research-oriented academic opportunities.

The University looks forward to successfully conducting the remaining sessions of the programme and further strengthening its academic engagement with IIRS–ISRO, Dehradun.
