Department Overview
The Department of Computer Science at Sikkim Alpine University is dedicated to nurturing future-ready computing professionals through quality education, innovation, and experiential learning. Guided by the principles of NEP 2020, the department offers industry-oriented programmes that combine strong academic foundations with hands-on training in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Full-Stack Development, and the Internet of Things. It covers contemporary areas including Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Internet of Things, and Full-Stack Development. Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA)
The BCA curriculum is designed under the NEP 2020 Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) framework, providing a strong foundation in computing through outcome-based and experiential learning. It integrates programming, software development, emerging technologies, internships, multidisciplinary learning, and research opportunities to prepare students for higher studies and professional careers.
Master of Computer Applications (MCA)
The MCA curriculum is a contemporary postgraduate programme that emphasizes advanced computing concepts, research, innovation, and industry-oriented learning. It provides in-depth knowledge of modern technologies through core courses, electives, seminars, projects, and practical applications, preparing graduates for leadership roles in academia, research, entrepreneurship, and the IT industry.
Laboratories & Infrastructure
The Department of Computer Science provides a conducive learning environment with well-maintained computer laboratories that support practical learning, programming, database management, software development, and project-based activities. Research / Major Project Activities
The Department of Computer Science promotes experiential learning through industry-oriented projects and research. In the final semester, BCA students undertake a Major Project or Research Project (for Honours with Research), while MCA students complete a Research Project/Dissertation under faculty supervision. These capstone projects enable students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems, strengthen research and innovation skills, and enhance their readiness for higher studies and professional careers.
