World No Tobacco Day 2026 was observed by SAU
World No Tobacco Day 2026: was observed on 1st June 2026 at Sikkim Alpine University, Kamrang Campus, under the theme “Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction.” Around 60 students from various departments participated. The programme was organized by District Namchi Hospital, Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, with support from the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Committee (NMBAC), SAU.
The programme was hosted by Mr. Dawa Sherpa, Member, NMBAC, SAU, and the dignitaries were welcomed with khada by Ms. Prashanti Pradhan, Coordinator, NMBAC.
Dr. Sunita Thapa, DNO, NTCP, District Hospital Namchi, served as the resource person and spoke on the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine addiction, highlighting various forms of tobacco use, their health impacts, and the importance of maintaining a tobacco-free campus through awareness initiatives.
Mrs. Reshma Subba, Health Educator, District Hospital Namchi, conducted an interactive session on mental health and well-being.
