Sikkim Alpine University Shines at District Youth Festival :

Namchi, May 30, 2023 — In a bid to foster youth empowerment and highlight civic responsibilities, the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), operating under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, organized the “District Youth Festival” at Namchi Government College on May 30, 2023. The event, graced by various dignitaries, focused on crucial themes such as constitutional rights, sustainable development, climate change, and the nation’s progress.

The esteemed Chief Guest for the occasion was Vice Chancellor Prof. Ram Kumar Thapa from Sikkim Alpine University.

The festival featured a range of inter-institutional competitions designed to showcase the talents of participating youth. These included painting, mobile photography, poem writing and recitation, folk dance, and a declamation contest.

A total of 31 students from Sikkim Alpine University participated in various competitive events, demonstrating their skills in folk dance (Lepcha and Nepali), poem writing and recitation (English and Nepali), declamation, painting, and mobile photography.

In the English poetry competition, Mr. Sonam Tashi Bhutia from the Department of Zoology secured the first position, while Mr. Rajen Sherpa from the Department of English claimed the third position. In the Nepali poetry competition, Ms. Anisha Chettri from the Department of Nepali achieved the second position. The Photography competition saw Mr. Anunay Pradhan from the Department of Geography clinching the top spot.

The Nepali folk dance group, comprised of students from the Departments of Nepali, Library Sciences, and Geography, secured the second position. The dancers included Ms. Rukshana Sarki, Ms. Prasanna Rai, Ms. Sital Rai, Ms. Arati Khati, Ms. Anisha Chettri, Ms. Sushmita Subba, Ms. Reshma Chettri, Ms. Parmita Rai, and Ms. Tigenna Subba. In the painting competition, Ms. Phuntsokla Bhutia from the Department of Library Sciences claimed the second position.

The dedicated faculty members of Sikkim Alpine University played a crucial role in mentoring and preparing the students for their respective events. The festival concluded with a grand prize distribution ceremony and a heartfelt vote of thanks.
