Sikkim Alpine University celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024
Event Overview
NAMCHI, December 3 : Sikkim Alpine University celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities by organizing a rally. Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future is the theme of World Disability 2024. B.Ed Special Education and Diploma students from the Department of Special Education organized an awareness program about various types of disabilities and their causes and prevention.
Rally and Awareness
They also organized a rally to highlight this theme and to uplift the current scenario of school environment by inculcating inclusive education. No child should be denied admission in schools due to any kind of disability. Schools have to cater to the needs of disabled children and build an inclusive environment. Persons with Disability have to be empowered by incorporating vocational skills and training.
Disability Rights and Types
As per Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act 2016, 21 types of disabilities have been included in the act. This includes major disabilities such as Visual Impairment, Hearing Impairment, Loco Motor Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Disability , Multiple Disability, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Neurological Condition Mental Illness etc.
Community Engagement
The students of Special Education, Sikkim Alpine University have created awareness in Kamrang Fatak and nearby locality. The rally was signaled off by Dr.Vijay Kumar Gulati (Registrar), Dr. Sareena Subba (Deputy Registrar), Dr.Bharath Narayanan (Head, Department of Special Education) and other faculty members along with students of the University took an active part in the rally and made this awareness program truly commendable.
